Book Overview

My attempt in this research work is to take a hard look at the efficacy of training programmes for taking IELTS and TOEFL and to ascertain the dependability of such training given to prospective test–takers who would be taking these as tests of proficiency in English. We feel the need to do this for the simple reason that these two tests have come to be regarded as passports to the UK and the USA respectively, irrespective of whether one wishes to go to these countries to pursue higher studies or to take up employment in them. Any attempt of the kind must begin with a close analysis of the topic of research which, in our case, is “Efficacy of IELTS and TOEFL as Dependable tests of Proficiency in English”.Our primary focus is, therefore, on the efficacy of the training programmes offered to prospective test–takers of both IELTS and TOEFL tests so that they could get a higher band on them and would explore into the method of training used on these tests. We begin by looking at the term efficacy.
