Book Overview

Neonatal cholestasis is defined as prolonged conjugated hyperbilirubinemia that occurs in the newborn period. Cholestasis is derived from the Latin words; chole means bile and stasis means still as it results from a diminished bile flow and/or excretion of conjugated bilirubin from the hepatocyte into the duodenum (Hwang & Shulman, 2002).
